Wow, what a switch from day 1 to day 2. It's obvious this is my first full day of work in a while, as I was completely exhausted by lunchtime. Then again, maybe it's because I didn't get the time to sit down for more than a couple minutes up until I sat down for lunch. I was put into one of the busier areas of the store, and to tell you the truth, I'm kind of glad. It's not an area I can stand smell-wise, but I'm also used to it, so just being so busy the whole morning made it fly... Thank goodness too, because it was a cold walk this morning!
Luckily this morning's walk, though pitch black and a slight dusting of snow on the ground, was quite nice. I was thoroughly bundled up (to the point that it took me a couple minutes after I got to work to UNbundle), so the cold wasn't too bad. My legs felt it a little but they always do. But I kept my pace up for the most part and shaved 10 minutes off of the walk time. But I really needed to get there as quickly as possible as I had a lot of unlayering to do and a couple other things before I even clocked in.
I'm glad I remembered how to clock in, as the manager had only TOLD me and not shown me, and he wasn't in yet. I'm not big on asking things, but I know it's expected on your first REAL day of work.
Lunch was quiet and quick, though I needed the time more than I have in a very long time. I brought a cup of easy mac and warmed that up. After that it was a couple pain killers and back to work (I told you I'd need them). I can only hope whoever's watching my area doesn't screw it up any worse than I had it - every last one of the machines was busy doing its thing when I left (they do their own thing so you can walk away, those who know what I'm doing know what I'm talking about probably lol)!
To tell you how busy I was, in 5 hours I had to restock one area of my supplies twice and had to have my trash hauled out twice too! There's no way I could take out my own trash, heck I could fit in my trash barrels! My trash bags probably weighed as much as I do and so pushing them around was all I was going to do, not one cent more!
The rest of the day went by more slowly, and quietly. After I was shown the adjustment for the afternoon as compared to the morning madness, I proceeded to make the necessary adjustments. Just as I got this done and was finally breathing, I was pulled away to do the dishes… just what I wanted to do… NOT! But I did them, every last one of them, even though they kept adding to my pile! Once I got those done, I was asked to do some stocking, which I didn't mind. The next shift had arrived so my morning area was staffed (though not very well). I got the last of my stocking done right before quitting time.
After re-bundling up somewhat in the restroom, I headed out and stopped at the bus stop right in front of work (too bad it doesn't run earlier). I thought it wasn't coming for a while, so once I finished wrapping up, I started walking. But with my knee wanting to quit, my back still hurting, and my legs just screaming for relief, I only made it two stops down. I saw a couple people waiting at the bus stop so I knew it hadn't come yet and probably would soon, and sure enough, it was only a minute or two behind me. So I paid the $1.25 and got on to go the whole mile to the bus stop closest to my place. I still had to walk a couple blocks but it was a lot closer, and the less than 5 minute bus trip saved me 20 minutes of walking. So I wobbled home, checked the mail, and got indoors, happier than I've been in a very long time to be home. I still smell like work and I'll surely have to wash my hands again before I eat dinner so that I don't TASTE work too! But I am very happy to say I made it through the day, with a lot of aches and pains, but I made it. I'm going to have to talk to the boss about this only one break a day crap though. That's outrageous. Besides, doesn't the law require at least one break AND a 30 minute lunch? But it's not like we had the ability to do it today, as we were short-handed at least 2 people.
