Ooooo yea....

Heyas again.
I was just thinking as I was laying here trying to shut my brain off so I could go to sleep...
OMG I can't believe it's been a year this month since we finally figured out what was so wrong with Nimbus. It's been a year of ups and downs, scare after scare, hope diminshed and then reborn altogether. But we've seen a cat that was near the brink of disaster hovering near the 500 mark finally stabilize in the 80-120 area (which is normal range). He's not as low as he once was insulin-wise, but I'd much rather take the 4 units and stability than the very very sick cat that we had one short year ago. I am very fortunate to have a very caring and understanding vet, though I know Nimbus has been most puzzling to even her. Everything they say is safe for diabetic cats (and is for the normal sick kitties) makes my Boo shoot through the roof. One treat won't barely affect him, but two sends him up 30 points. Wet food is supposed to be better for him than dry food, but even getting his shot just before eating, he's guaranteed at least a 40 point spike. PFT!
We've had a switch in insulins that saw him make leaps of progress in such short time that it was almost scary. He suddenly went from a slowly improving cat to nearly a kitten again. For a brief moment, he was starting to jump up on things he hadn't in years, because of his size. Then he got big again, so we switched his food up on him (ever-so-slowly), but instead of watching him lose weight (which he did initially a little bit), it ended up being Curzon losing the weight. Nimbus is still one big grey furball, but a year later, I can definitely tell you he's a happier, healthier kitty.
I never thought I'd ever have to go though something like this with a cat, but I am so thankful that it was with a cat that is patient, tolerant, and loving (not that the twins aren't loving, because they are, they're just not very patient or tolerant lol). For a few months I had to chase him down to get his tests done and give him his shot, and there were several times I was chasing him clear across the place trying to get him to stay still for a poke I doubt he felt much. Now one little nudge and he's usually up and at least wandering in the general direction of his spot.
So this holiday season, though I'm not so big on it, I am thankful this year that has come and gone with a healthier, happier Nimbus and a vet as determined to help him as I am. So, there's no need for anyone to try to give me anything this year. Nimbus gave me the best present already.
And for all of our blogger buddies out here... I shall make sure to pass on hugs n cuddles in advance to the BooCat, though I'm sure he'll detest every last bit of it. He hasn't gotten Misha's ManCat advice memo yet. Cuddles aren't his favorite thing with humans. Laying next to, maybe. Being held, absolutely passes on when possible, though he does make the occasional exception for Mr. Cat. But pft, that man raised the kitten from nearly the beginning.
Now I'm back to trying to find that blasted sleep ghost again!
