Nimbus! ...

Nimbus you scared me this morning.
Ok so it wasn't necessarily your fault, but it scared the heck out of me for a moment. The thought of you approaching 200 was devastatingly scary. We have fought too hard over the last year to get you UNDER 200 and keep you there to see it erase after so long of being successful. But first of all, I didn't believe my eyes. Secondly, I know there's something that happens to those expensive@rse test strips when they get exposed to air. So of course I had to retest you. I'm sorry you got poked twice. But it was poke twice and be sure or poke once and adjust your insulin accordingly, risking a lot more than just numbers. You were such a great patient too this morning, and thank you for that. I was much too sleepy still to wrestle with you much less anything else. I could barely see the blood on your ear I was so tired! But, as always you're a good sport, and you got the correct dose instead of way too much. I'm sorry I'm still learning, but I wasn't told everything and even if I was, there's not much preparing for something like this. It could always be worse, and I count my blessings every day that your heart condition hasn't returned. You are indeed very special, not just because you're a grey cat (though I think all grey cats are special) or because of the gene pool you came from (though omg you came from great stock for being half muttcat lol), or anything like that. Not many cats (or humans for that matter) are as patient, gentle (for the most part), or loving as you. I'm so glad you were my first (from-birth) kitten!
Oh, hey everyone, just thought I'd let everyone in on my little talk with the Boo.
Once again everything is getting put off. It was supposed to clear out today, but instead it clouded up! It's not terribly cold outside, but it's not warm either. So things get shuffled again. Today is a stay in bed, catch up with the world, relax after a good day's work kind of day. Maybe I'll take the time to pamper myself a little bit today. Or maybe I'll just kick back with some music softly playing in the background and snuggle with a kitty (if I can get one of them down off the nip enough to). The poor nip sock has been getting beat up terribly today, but I still can't believe it's still together. Between Nimbus gnawing on it, Jadzia pulling on it, and Curzon back-kicking it, it should be torn to shreds by now, nip everywhere. But something's different about this sock. Either this is an oddball-out super-high quality Mr. Cat sock (though how he got a hole in it if it was so high-quality is beyond me) or they figured out it's funner to just beat up on it rather than TRY to shred it. We shall see.
So anyways, back to Nimbus.
I freaked out this morning because the first time I tested him he was at like 171 or some crazy crap like that. I was like hell no we're not playing that game. His second test was a LOT lower, to the point he actually fell from yesterday's highs. He's back in double digits, though upper 90s. I'm more curious to see where he is later when I test him. Needless to say I have to change the routine of how I do his testing a slight bit since I now know how sensitive these cotton-pickin strips are! I really wanted to scream fits for about half a second, but when in doubt, test again. Thank goodness I did because I would've boosted his shot up again after I had given him a little more when he got up into the 150s. 5 units could've sent him crashing, and totally screwed up his regulation. And trust me, re-regulating a diabetic cat is a very annoying, nerve-wracking, frustrating process. Never mind the very nature of the cat is to be stubborn to the very end and Nimbus has mastered that better than any other cat I know. In the dictionary under "unpredictable cat" there's a picture of Nimbus I'm sure lol!
