Mom's Answer to Pic Controversy

These cats get so jealous of each other sometimes. Then you have moments like right now (of course I don't have the camera with me and if I moved to get it, she'd move) where I have a JazzyCat laying right next to Nimbus, making the top part of a T at his rear end LOL. This is so extremely rare that they lay together much less touching. But SOMETIMES she has her moments of kindness and she shows us - and him - that she still loves him even though she is so outright mean to him sometimes.
So to the pictures...
As you may remember, it wasn't even a competition last time (not that it ever was). I had taken many more pictures of Jadzia. Well, in the last two weeks, I've taken 323 pics but 120 of them were trash, leaving us with 203 pictures to sort out. Well, I have good news for Nimbus - sorta. He's not the least-photographed cat this time, he's number 2. He barely edged out Jadzia for that, which means Curzon was my most photographed cat! It was a blowout. There were nearly twice as many Curzon pics as there were Jadzia pics, and Jadzia and Nimbus COMBINED individual shots are just barely more than Curzon's solo shots. Now the big difference this time is that I got a lot more shots of the twins together and the boys together. I actually even managed to get a handful of the queen with her boy (you guys saw that spread where he was in the box and she was giving him the look from outside the box). But I'm just so happy I got some good Curzon pics. He rarely gets the quality photo shoots that Nimbus does but when he does, he gives me some good ones. Jadzia just doesn't stay still long enough, but I guess that just comes with being mamacat.
Also, for those of you who have been watching Nimbus' numbers along with me, he's doing good (*knock on wood*). His readings have finally gotten closer to the 100 rather than the 200 mark. He's actually dipping under, and I even contemplated bringing him down a little on the insulin. But he's still trying to adjust to the dose he's getting, so I really need to focus on getting him regulated at this dose before I start bringing him down. I want to, don't get me wrong, as every unit I can drop him down is going to save me money. But his health and happiness is top priority. And right now 5 units of insulin has him happy. It's still much better than the 10+ he was getting while we were still fighting the infections. I guess we'll find out if giving him that second course of antibiotics is what did the trick soon. Either way, he does need to go to the vet soon, whether or not he has fought off this infection. With his diabetes-compromised immune system, an infection can linger in hiding waiting for him to start to fluctuate.
I was reading a vet article yesterday about the recent warnings about the Vetsulin and am so thankful once again for getting referred to our current vet from her coworker. The Vetsulin was doing its job but very slowly and his swings were so much wider. Since switching to the Lantus, we've had much better results and much faster than we had before. Unfortunately, it's much more expensive, but it's a human insulin so it's quality is much more tightly controlled, nevermind it's just an all-around better insulin. There is no way we could've gotten him infection-free last year on the vetsulin, no matter what antibiotics we had him on. It didn't get his glucose under control fast enough to give what little immune system he has to recouperate and regroup. Yes, he's a rotten spoiled brat, but I wouldn't have him any other way. To see him go from so infected he was nearly coughing himself to death to a happy healthy (albeit gigantic) cat is heartwarming to say the least. He's such a strong fighter, and he's proven that to me once again. I can't wait for him to get stable so I can give him - and the twins - a much deserved (albeit prescription) wet food treat. The vet would love for him to be on a wet food only diet, but that's just not going to work. For one, it's such a treat for these guys, they inhale it so quickly that they'd probably eat their body weight's worth of wet food every day! And worse, at least with Jadzia, the poop puddles (diarreah) would be so bad it'd make make Herman's puddles look like nothing happened. Trust me, been there, done that, do NOT want to go back there. It's extremely stinky, extremely messy, and dangerous for us humans as we'd have to bathe Jadzia to clean her rear up. It's best left as a rare treat, a treat that they get spoiled with if they have to stay at the vet.
I still remember when Nimbus was hospitalized in 2007 with his blockage and HCM. I called to check on him and the receptionist was saying how happy he was, how much he was purring, and all the affection he was giving them. Well, the purrs and affection didn't surprise me (he's just like his uncle, the flirtacious ladies mancat). But when they told me how much wet food they were giving him, I was like well there you go, you've given him more treats in one day than he gets in months here! But like she said back, it's very stressful in there, especially for a sick kitty, so he definitely deserved it.
One thing is for sure. When Nimbus goes to the vet, I can't wait to find out how much more than Curzon he weighs. I will put it on the table right now I bet it's 2lb at least. I can easily see him a 16.5lb cat, probably more. I'm sure the vet will flip though. He's such a strong cat though, and I think sometimes she forgets how fit and muscular even a big Coon can be. I bet Wendy can vouch for the strength of a Coon as can the Rumblemum! Nimbus is such a challenge for me to hold sometimes that I have to put him on my lap on my back instead of my arms because of his sheer length and weight. He's easily as long as my torso, and I'm 5'5". Granted, I'm no giant, lmao, but I'm not a shrimp either! I'm used to lifting heavy cats (Curzon once upon a time was pushing 20lb), but when that cat is strong and is a good wrasslin' kitty, holding said cat can be challenging. Luckily, I'm the master piller.
Anyways, that's all for now. I hope everyone's had a good day!
